Welcome to Radiant Church…
Thanks for taking a look around. No matter who you are, where you’ve been, or what you think you’ve done, we tell everyone here, “Come as you are!”

Life is hard. It has its ups and downs. Not everything goes as planned. Is there help for my marriage and relationships? How do I raise my kids? Why am I here? What happens when we die? And more… All great questions for sure.

We invite you into a journey to connect with a community of imperfect people who are exploring many of the same questions in life you may be asking. We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but we do believe those answers can be found through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and his challenge for us to love God and love each other in all we do. Ultimately, we want this to be a safe place for you to connect with God and with others wherever you may be on your spiritual journey.

Jesus had a simple invitation…

     John 1:46
     “Come and see”

That’s our invitation to you. Come and see. Come as you are. Let’s begin a great adventure to find out what you were created for and why we are here. See you soon!

We want this to be a safe place for you to begin a journey and explore the important questions of life. We have fun, and we’re serious about it. Church doesn’t have to be boring. We value life and friendship; laughter and memories. At Radiant, we take God seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re also pretty laid back. Our teaching is practical and explores real life solutions to real life problems. The music is modern and sounds like music you’d hear on the radio. The dress code is casual. We’re also pretty friendly. Be ready for someone to shake your hand. And, we’re all about building bridges and removing barriers. We want to be known for what we are for, not what we are against. We’re all about introducing people to Jesus.
Anything that stops growing dies. We desire to build environments that help you connect with God and with others so you can experience meaningful life change. And, we desire to keep it real and fight against fake. We aspire to live and lead with authenticity. Which means we are committed to taking off our masks, getting real with God, and being real with others. Realizing, different people are at different places in their faith journey, we’re a community of people who are “in process.” So, whether you’ve been following Jesus for a long time or you’re exploring faith for the first time, we’re glad you’re here.
We desire to transform our communities in meaningful ways that provide value to the world around us. Loving the world around us is at the core of what we do and who we are. We want to be a church that, were it to disappear from our community, would be deeply missed. Therefore, we believe in expanding our reach so we can spread the message of Jesus to as many as possible. We launch churches, develop leaders, and go to the ends of the earth. As long as there is one person in the community who does not have a growing relationship with Jesus, our job is not done.

We know it can be tricky to find your way in a new place, so we want to help you with some suggestions to help you feel at home. Don’t worry about what to wear or what to bring. Just come as you are. There’s coffee in the lobby, take it with you into the service. Grab a program with helpful information from one of our hosts on the way in. There’s a communication card. Take a moment to fill it out. Later in the service some buckets will go by. Just place it in the bucket. You can check your children in to our secure childcare area, where they will be cared for by trained volunteers who have passed a background check. We have a motto around here, “Kids are a Big Deal!!!” We’ll have some live music, creative programming and a practical personal message that we hope inspires you to take your next step toward God and faith. The service usually lasts 60 to 70 minutes and we encourage you to hang out afterwards and meet a few folks.

  • Beliefs

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. There is only one God.

    Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14 2.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

    Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13.

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

    2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

The Bible is God’s Word to us. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspires it, it is the truth without any mixture of error.

    2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5 5.

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and destroys the life God planned for us.

    Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved.

    Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Gal. 3:26; Romans 5:1

Because God created us with a free will, a believer may choose to rebel against God and forfeit the saving relationship with Christ. This is not an accidental event. It is the result of an ongoing pattern of deliberate rebellion. Even so, God continues to reach out to us and draw us back to Himself.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-2; 2 Timothy 2:11-13; Hebrews 10:26-29 8.

God wants every believer to love and obey Him completely. Sanctification is the process God uses to deal with that part of the human will which resists Him and tends toward deliberate sin. When we surrender completely to God, He cleanses us and fills us with His Holy Spirit. This enables us to desire God’s will above our own and to experience greater power over temptation than we have ever known.

    Ezekiel 36:26-27; Matthew 5:8,48; Ephesians 4:23-24; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

Every person who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior receives the Holy Spirit, and is given special abilities to be used in service for the Lord. There are as wide a variety of these gifts as there are needs and personalities. God chooses which gift each individual believer receives. While we do not seek to limit any personal and private expression of faith, we believe that only a language readily understood by the entire group is appropriate to use in any gathering of the church.

    Luke 11:13; Acts 2:38; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-14:40; Ephesians 4:11-16;
    1 Peter 4:10-11

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.

    John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9

  • History

Radiant church began March 21st 2010 with a desire to reach people with the message of Jesus Christ on the East side of Des Moines. It started with a group of people in the E26th area, and quickly grew into something bigger.  A group of people were ready to make a difference in the world around them.

During the next few years, Radiant continued to grow as it moved from the E26th location to the Orange Fitness building in Pleasant Hill. This resulted in further growth, but we could not stay in that building forever. Eventually it found ourselves at our current location (down the street) in Pleasant Hill at 1300 Metro East Dr. We’ve been there the past four years, and God continues to grow Radiant.

In 2015, the founding pastor left. This was a season of transition for Radiant as they sought God for the next season of life. In July 2016, our current pastor (Jason Shanks) answered God’s call to lead Radiant into a new season of growth and momentum. Radiant is positioning themselves to live out the God-sized dreams, vision, and mission, we are being called towards in this new season.

We look forward to this new time as we continue to share the message of Jesus on the east side and beyond. We believe God is calling us to be a light in the darkness throughout Des Moines and in our region. Through it all, our vision remains clear. We exist to…

    introduce people to Jesus
    whatever it takes
    wherever God sends us

And that is our invitation to you. Are you ready to roll up your sleeves, get dirty, and introduce people to Jesus in the world around us? We’d love to have you on the team.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. We want to personally invite you to join a group of people that is passionate about helping others in our community and a desire to make a difference in the world around us. It is our sincere desire to come alongside you in your journey and explore life’s questions together as we discover what it means to live as Jesus lived and love as Jesus loved.  See you soon!
